METROPOLITAN CLUB EXHIBITION
Faced with the challenge of creating a centerpiece for a charity dinner to represent a Greek god or goddess, I decided to create a piece paying homage to Hephaestus, the god of technology, blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, and metals. His symbol is an anvil. I chose to mold the base into an anvil constructed of insulation board, and have weapons sticking out of it to represent his trade. The white fabric not only softens the hard, rigid elements but alludes to a myth in which Hephaestus used a net to capture his unfaithful wife.
